dive shows at the Tennessee Aquarium -DAILY - 11
a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m.
Home to enormous sand tiger sharks and thousands
of colorful reef fish, the dive shows in the Secret Reef exhibit
at the Aquarium are the catch of the day. Visitors on the dry side
of the tank get to talk to a diver on the wet side while "dive
buddies" scan the sea scene with shark "bump sticks"
just as a precaution. Guests will learn about the myths and mysteries
of some of the most feared animals on earth with special emphasis
on saltwater habitats and the importance of the coral reef community.
(SPECIAL NOTE – Due to the dangerous nature of the feeding
behaviors of the sharks, these will NOT be feeding dives.) Free
with regular admission to Tennessee Aquarium www.tnaqua.org.
Remember
drive-in movies?
through August
Lawn chairs and blankets scattered on the ground or the car on warm
summer evenings? Giant boxes of Raisinettes, M&M's and Milk
Duds. Backseat smooching if the movie was bad — or even if
it was good? The
Wilderness
Outdoor Theater, a new drive-in, features the world’s
largest single-screen outdoor theater. Located on a terraced hillside
on the Georgia side of Chattanooga in Trenton, just 15 minutes from
downtown, the theater has enough room for a thousand cars.
Open-air
market on Sundays is a feast for the senses — through
August
When you visit the Chattanooga
Market, you'll find still-warm bread from local bakeries,
just-picked produce that is thousands of miles fresher than most
store-bought stuff (and tax free), live music, artists and artisans
selling things they've made in and around Chattanooga, live chef
demonstrations from some of our finest restaurants, farm-fresh free
range eggs, meats and more just waiting to entice you. The Chattanooga
Market is a weekly
open air market (with a covered “lid”)
in downtown Chattanooga (Southside) noon to 5 p.m.
Sea life in 3D six stories tall —
All Year
So real, it's unreal! In the massive
six-story-high IMAX
3D Theater you feel like you're in the movie, not just
watching it. Have astonishingly up-close 3D encounters with giant
Pacific octopi and whale sharks the size of school buses. Or prepare
yourself for a Harry Potter adventure complete with fire-spewing
dragons. In the fourth in the Harry Potter film series, "The
Goblet of Fire" IMAX film makes you feel like you’re
part of the action especially when you attend the Quidditch World
Cup. (3D glasses not necessary for Harry Potter film)
Take me out to a ballgame and fireworks
— through August
Regardless of your home team, there are some things nearly all baseball
fans love: the snap of the bat, the smell of the freshly cut grass
and the sizzle of the grill when it delivers up the dogs.
With all the traditional fun of a minor league game, the Chattanooga
Lookouts batter-up in the beautiful BellSouth stadium next door
to the IMAX Theater. Ball games when there are fireworks to dazzle
the fans turn any home game into a holiday. Check
out the calendar to see which dates have sky lighting.
Free
Friday outdoor concerts in the park feature the best of rock, pop,
country & jazz
— through August
Summer sings downtown. Every Friday night is different
– Sometimes it’s rock, blues, jazz, reggae, zydeco,
funk, bluegrass or folk music but it’s always fun and it’s
always free.
The
Nightfall concert series is a downtown Chattanooga
summer tradition for the past 19 years. So hop aboard one of the
free downtown electric shuttles and head to Miller Plaza. All you
need is a blanket or towel to sit on. The Miller Plaza stage heats
up with a local opening act at 7 p.m. The headliner opens at 8 p.m.
Downtown Pops
— through August
Enjoy an evening at Coolidge
Park listening to pop and patriotic music. This series
of free concerts is scheduled for the first Saturday of
each month from June through September, sometimes extending
into October. This seven-acre North Shore park is situated near
the Walnut Street Bridge. Come by and ride the carousel featuring
hand-carved animals (rides available 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and
Saturday). Children love playing in the interactive fountain. Water
spurts out randomly sending kids into a crazy frenzy and keeps them
entertained while you take in the concert. The fountain is open
daily 8am to 10pm.
